Wandering through the numerous food stalls at The Food Safari on the Friday, 14th of November, I chanced upon a Mexican Food stall by the name of Hungry Chico.

The menu-stated use of chicken instead of the usual beef in Mexican dishes pique my interest, and as everyone knows that it’s hard to content with beef’s flavour and texture, I decided to give the Quesadilla with chicken a shot.

The cook grilled the quesadilla on the spot and I received the 2 piping hot quarters with relish.

As soon as I tasted my first mouthful of that quesadilla, I knew that I was going to enjoy it entirely!

While most bits of meats used as filling have a tendency to be tough, dry or stale, the shredded chicken surprised me by being moist and tender; definitely not what one would expect of ‘fast’ food. I could taste the freshness of the ingredients used, from the crisp yet chewy tortilla to the fiery jalapeños. Clearly, this company does not compromise on food quality in an effort to minimise costs.

The quesadillas seemed at very popular choice by other patrons indeed and I felt sorry for those who chose not to have the jalapeños in theirs as they add a zing that nicely complemented the mild yet tasty cheese and juicy chicken.

One negative factor would be the overly generous slashings of oil that the cook kept adding to the griddle as I watched her grill the quesadillas. A portion of the paper bag which held my quesadilla was soaked through within minutes!

That aside, I thoroughly enjoyed the quesadilla and would definitely want seconds the next time I see Hungry Chico!

I posted a few months ago looking for a good Mexican place in Singapore. Most places that were recommended were fusion Mexican food and really expensive! Anyway, just to let Mexican food lovers out there (especially those from California) know that I found a place!!! It's called Hungry Chicos on ... road!! It's in this sort of fancy ... food place called 3 Buddeez. It reminds me of one of those cool outdoor hut-like restaurants in beach towns.

The food is pretty damn close to being authentic! They serve ACTUAL spanish rice and their salsa is really really good! They make a really kick-ass quesadilla, fajita but I think their best dish is a baked fish with melted cheese and this slightly spicy sauce on top. And the prices are half of what you pay in the other Mexican restaurants.

I'm really excited!!! I used to have Mexican food every week in California and now can go back to my routine! ha! Yipppeee!!!

I arrived in Singapore about a month ago from the U.S. and it was music to my ears when I heard a new mexican restaurant had opened in Singapore. My wife and I enjoyed it so much we went back the following week...

The chips and salsa are homemade ($4) and is some of the best I have ever had, it is a must for a starter.

I had the shredded burrito ($4.50), portion was a bit small and the meat was a bit chewy, however, the taste was divine. The mexican rice ($1.50) was also very good.

Overall, this is great mexican food and the price could not be any cheaper.
